The What, When, Why & How of replanting summer gardens and containers with fall and winter hardy plants, rebuilding soils for the next season and beyond, and productive ways to let your growing space relax and rest.

Autumn can be a time to replant the summer vegetable garden with cool season plants and establish perennials, rebuild your soil with slow release minerals and cover crops or take the time to relax and plan for next Spring. What we do in Autumn influences every gardening season. Learn what we can do to make the most of this upcoming season.

About our presenters:
If you ask a handful of farmers the same question, you'll likely get a handful of different responses, or so the saying goes.
Join FarmHers (yep, female farmers), Mary Roberts of Windcrest Organics and Erin Hostetler of The Patio Farmer for a cup of coffee or tea as they share information on a specific topic or theme that can help improve your home growing experience.
Ask your food growing questions to hear responses from Mary and Erin!

Erin Hostetler is The Patio Farmer, a woman owned small business in Charlotte that offers Consultations, Installations and Custom Maintenance Plans for individuals who are looking to start or continue growing food at home. The Patio Farmer specializes in raised bed and container garden growing. Erin has worked on farms of all shapes and sizes over the last 6 years, from 20-acre Certified Organic production farms to small urban farms and goat dairies. Erin currently homesteads, growing food in raised beds and containers, tending chickens and goats on 1.6 acres in northwest Charlotte. She is passionate about growing food and teaching others how to do so, no matter how much space they have!

Mary Roberts is The Second Season Farmer at Windcrest Farm, a UDSA Certified Organic farm and greenhouse established in 1978 in Monroe, NC. After twenty years as a corporate instructor and project manager, Mary turned her passion for growing plants organically into a business that supplies market farmers and home gardeners with over 300,000 heirloom vegetable, flower, herb and fruit plants each year. In addition, she grows fresh produce, herbs and cut flowers for flowers for local families, markets and restaurants.
