Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
Perennial, hardy in zones 9-11
Marjoram is in the same family as Oregano but has a milder flavor. Leaves add a spicy flavor to cooking, and is often added to sausages, meatloaf, stuffing and potato soup. We like to use it in cooked vegetables, salads and vinaigrettes. A good source of vitamin K and manganese. The seed heads are used as a natural dye to color wool in shades of yellow, orange, brown and grey.
Plant in full sun in rich, well drained soil.
Watering: Sweet marjoram is sensitive to overwatering, subject to root rot, so keep the soil on the dry side.
Prune often to promote bushier growth.
Height: 24-36 inches
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic
