Description

Tea'rrific Compost Brew Bags are a convenient way to make a powerful liquid fertilizer and a economical way to nurture all your plants - indoors and out.

Each Brew Bag makes one gallon of extract concentrate or five gallons of aerated tea concentrate
Each one gallon of concentrate makes 5 gallons of liquid fertilizer or 10 gallons of foliar spray.

To make an concentrated extract, simply place one Tea'rrific Compost Brew Bag in one gallon of water, and stir occasionally over the next 24 hours. After 24 hours, you can use this nutritious brew as a concentrate, a liquid fertilizer or apply as a foliar spray.

To make an aerated compost tea, add one Tea'rrific Compost Brew Bag to 5 gallons of water and aerate with your chosen arerating brewer equipment.

After brewing, toss the biodegradable, unbleached tea bag into the compost pile or place in the soil around plants to continue to feed the root zone and add biology to the soil.

INGREDIENTS in our unbleached, biodegradable brew bag:

Worm Castings - OMRI Listed
Worm castings are 100% organic humus, rich in iron, sulfur, calcium, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Castings also contain diverse microbiological colonies that help fight soil-borne plant diseases and repel insects.

Because the worm castings are water-soluble and release their nutrients into the tea, plants can quickly and easily absorb the castings' essential nutrients and trace minerals.
Extensive university research at Ohio State, Cornell University, UC Davis and the Australian SIRO have shown that worm castings improves nutrient absorption resulting in greater flower size, bloom quantity, quality and color. Fruit and vegetable tests have resulted in yield improvements from 57% to over 200% as well as improvement in taste and appearance.

Humic Acid - OMRI Listed
Humic Acids are complex molecules that exist naturally in soils, peats, oceans and fresh waters and are the result of the complete and natural plant decomposition. Found in pre-historic deposits, Humic Acids are not a fertilizer, but act as a bio-catalyst and bio-stimulant conditioner for the soil, and therefore, for the plant.
Humic acids physically modify the structure of the soil, with benefits such as:

  • Improved soil structure
  • Increased water holding capacity of soil
  • Stimulates soil micro-organisms and plant enzymes
  • Enhances plant's natural resistance against diseases and pests.
  • Stimulates root growth
Plant-based Fertilizers

Alfalfa Meal - Certified Organic (4-3-.7 + minerals)
Slow acting all purpose fertilizer. An alternative to blood meal as a source of nitrogen, balanced with phosphorus and potassium. An excellent soil conditioner because of it's protein and carbohydrates that encourage microbial action in soil. Has an excellent carbon to nitrogen ratio which helps speeds availability in the soil to plants.
Kelp Meal - Certified Organic (1-0-2)
Kelp Meal contains 60 trace minerals and an assortment of amino acids, enzymes, and alginates that feed and stimulate the necessary microorganisms in your soil. A healthy, active microbial population will breakdown organic material, improve the quality and texture of the soil, and help deliver nutrients to plant root systems.
Comfrey - Certified Organic, grown at Windcrest Farm.
With a deep taproot and large root system, comfrey pulls nutrients from the subsoil where most other plants can't reach. Comfrey is high in nutrients that a plant needs, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace elements. With an ideal Carbon to Nitrogen ratio comfrey does not hamper a plant's absorption of nitrogen.
Nettle - Certified Organic, grown at Windcrest Farm.
An essential pollinator habitat plant as well as a highly-prized medicinal herb at Windcrest Farm, nettle leaves contain nitrogen, chlorophyll, magnesium, sulfur, iron, potassium, copper, zinc and calcium - all essential nutrients for healthy plant growth.

Rock minerals

Azomite - OMRI Listed
The 'A to Z' of minerals, Azomite is a natural volcanic mineral powder, is water soluble and contains a broad spectrum of over 70 metabolically active minerals and trace elements.

HOW TO USE

What you need:
  • A clean container large enough to hold one gallon of water per brew bag. It is important that your container is clean - no residue from previous brews and no residue from soap or other cleaning agents, which may interfere with the tea's beneficial microbiology.
  • One gallon of water. Rainwater is best, well water is good, and tap water needs to 'off-gas' at least 24 hours before use.
  • One Tea'rrific Brew Bag per one gallon of water for extract or 5 gallons of water for aerated tea
  • A clean item to stir the tea during 'brewing'
  • 24 hours for extract; up to 48 hours for aerated tea
How to apply:
  • As a concentrate, apply 1/8 cup of brew to the soil at the base of the plant.
  • For weekly or biweekly liquid feed, add 4 gallons of water to 1 gallon of brew and apply 1/8 cup at the base of the plant
  • As a foliar feed, add 9 gallons water to 1 gallon of brew and filter the solution before adding to spray equipment.
  • As a soil drench, Tea'rrific Compost Tea is intended to be a supplement to your regular watering routine. For most effective use, do not apply to water-stressed plants (too dry or too wet).
  • Tea'rrific Compost Tea can be applied as a foliar spray. Allow the brewed tea to remain unstirred for approximate one hour and filter before pouring into your spray bottle or equipment. This allows any compost residue to settle in your brewing container and not clog the spray nozzle. A coffee filter, paint strainer bag or cheesecloth works well as a filter. Use any tea residue left in the brew container as a soil drench or add to the compost pile as an accelerator.
How much to use and how often to apply:
  • Use Tea'rrific Compost Tea weekly or biweekly as a nutrient boost for all plants! The amount to use depends on the plant size and condition. A little goes a long way! As an example, we use approximately 1/8 cup for plants in 3-gallon containers, once a week.
  • Your compost tea can be diluted at a ratio of 1 gallon tea to 4 gallons of water to combine watering with feeding.

NOTE: Tea'rrific Compost Tea is a living soil amendment and should be used immediately after brewing. Storage of unused tea is not recommended because the healthy microorganisms released during brewing will begin to perish if not introduced to the soil and/or plants where they will happily thrive.
